Educational Infrastructure

As the IEIS prototypes evolve, the environmental information is being augmented with instructional materials covering a broad range:

• Descriptive diagrams , ,
• Lesson plans similar to the one generated by Project Skymath
• Forecast contests likeone called "What in the world is the weather like in San Diego, Carmen?"
• Observational instructions to enable students to take their own measurements and make the results available as part of the larger scientific database.
• An online cloud catalog with pictures and text illustrating the different types of clouds.
• Instructional modules explaining atmospheric pressure as well as forces and winds.

The intent is to make the observational data immediately useful in educational programs at all levels. Regional science education coalitions, such as the one in Michigan, are already producing classroom materials to go along with the real-time environmental information in earth science and mathematics classes.
